Answers To Common Questions About Baby Showers
Who is invited to a baby shower?
Anyone one knows or is related to the mommy can be on the list. It would be wise to review the guest list with the mother,
especially if you are not sure. Also, check with the mommy or her family to make sure you don't leave anyone out.
Keep some extra shower invitations on hand, just in case you need one at the last minute.
When should I send out the shower invitations?
Send them out about 5 or 6 weeks prior for anyone out of town and about 3 or 4 weeks prior for anyone local. You want to make
sure everyone RSVP's no later than 2 weeks before the event.
Where should a baby shower be held?
Normally, a baby shower is held at the home of a host or hostess. Sometimes, baby showers are held in public places like churches,
community centers, recreation halls even a favorite resturant, especially if you have a large crowd. You may want to consider
hosting it at the mommy's house so you can best accomodate family travelling from out of state.
Who should host a baby shower?
Baby showers can be hosted by friends, office coworkers, or family. Since baby showers can be alot of work, sometimes many people will share in hosting.
Should men be invited to a baby shower?
If it's a couples shower, it is ok to include men. Showers can be fun for men and women, especially if you choose the right theme and activities.
Use phrases like "couples" or "men and women" on the invitation so that guys will feel comfortable about attending.
How long before the baby is born should the shower be held?
It is pretty standard practice hold a baby shower about 2 - 3 months before the baby is due. This gives the mommy and her family a
chance to pick up any items they need but didn't receive at the shower. You really want to avoid any event less than 8 weeks before
the due date.
Is it acceptable to have a shower after the baby is born?
Baby showers can be held after the baby arrives to serve as a welcome. It certainly makes it easier to come up with themes and
gifts once you know the baby's gender. You may even be able to get a photo of the new baby. If this is the case,
you may want to take the opportunity forget about a theme or text shower invitation and help the mommy out by ordering theme or
photo birth announcements. This way, you can use one card for both the shower and the announcement.
It's hard to gauge perfect time to host after the baby is born. As a guideline, wait at least a month but check with the mommy
first ot make sure she is up to it.
